Chip Fricke Award

This award honors Walter “Chip” Fricke, who became SPNSCC president in 1985 and passed away in 1991.  Chip was an action-oriented president and very committed to international friendship. One trip to Nagasaki with Chip, Saint Paul Mayor Jim Scheibel noted that there were no memorials from the United States in the Nagasaki Peace Park. Determined to rectify that omission, he helped to arrange for Paul Granlund’s sculpture, Constellation Earth, to be sent to Nagasaki. In 1993, the Mayor was presented with the first Chip Fricke award for that work.  The Fricke award recognizes members and non-members alike who have made significant contributions to international understanding and good will.
